3D Scanner

The peel 3D™ scanner is an ergonomically hand-held device with an LCD screen and allows for scans in narrow, hard-to-reach places. Scanning can be used in a variety of fields such as digital archiving, prosthetics, mechanics, and more.

Review the peel 3D manual for full safety features and guidelines (available in several languages).

  • Never point the 3D scanner towards you or at any other individual, do not look directly into the infrared or LED lights of the 3D Scanner. These lights are extremely bright and may cause permanent damage to the eyes.
  • Do not touch the calibration plate or allow it to come in contact with any loose clothing or hair while scanning is in operation.
  • Ensure that the object you are scanning is in a stable position and is not at risk of falling over when the scanner is in motion.
  • Do not touch the camera lenses, doing so may reduce the accuracy of the 3D scanning process.
  • Do not place on an unstable surface; the product may fall, causing serious injury to a child or adult, as well as being damaged.
  • This product is not intended for use by children. When using the product, children should be under constant supervision by an adult responsible for their safety.
  • Shut down the product immediately if you feel any discomfort

DANGER: Risk of seizures
Some people may experience seizures when exposed to certain visual images, including flashing lights or patterns. These seizures may include symptoms such as lightheadedness, altered vision, eye or face twitching, jerking or shaking of arms or legs, disorientation, confusion, or momentary loss of awareness. Immediately stop using the scanner and consult a doctor if you experience any of these symptoms while using this device.

General Safety Reminders

  • Identify where the first aid kit and fire extinguishers are located.
  • Do not make any abrupt movements; be cautious of your surroundings.
  • Inform a staff member if something doesn't work. If you know how to fix the problem, fix it with the staff member, but you should not attempt to repair the equipment.
  • Be respectful of the space, equipment, materials, other users, and facilitators/staff who may be assisting.
  • Ask questions and view the information within this guide if you are unsure about any equipment in the space.

Before using the peel 3D™ Scanner review the manual first. Instruction on use of the scanner starts on page 16.

View the videos in the next section to help you get started with your first scan. Essentially, there are three easy steps:

  1. Scan the object
Simply point the scanner at the object you wish to scan. The Peel 3’s triangulated handle facilitates simple maneuvering around any object, including harder to reach spaces.
  2. Finalize mesh
Use the 3D scanning software to finish and optimize your models for 3D printing or additional CAD processing.
  3. Export file
The scanning data may be exported in common formats to any CAD application.
