We know people change their names for many reasons (gender transition, marriage, separation, etc.). We want to get your name right! If your name or your child’s name has changed for any reason, all you have to do is ask and we’ll change the name on your account. No legal ID or explanation required. If you’ve signed your card with an old name and want a new card, you can request that as well at no charge.
Yes. We will use whichever name you (or your child) request when you register.
No.
Anyone can sign up for a library card independently at 13 or older. This does not require any adult or parent signature, and no parent or other adult outside of the library will have access to the account. School ID is enough to sign up for a library card. No ID? Ask at the front desk and we’ll see what we can do.
If you are 13+, and have a children’s library card, you can visit any library and ask to switch to a library card that isn’t connected to a parent or guardian.
For physical materials: No. When you return a book on time, our system erases any record of it being borrowed on your library card. Your account will show only books that are currently requested, signed out, overdue or lost.
For eBooks/eAudiobooks: The Overdrive/Libby app provides different options for this. If you would like to turn on or off tracking for previous borrowing, see instructions for managing Reading History here.
Do not worry about old fines! We are not collecting fines at the moment, or blocking cards based on fines, and want to see you back at the library.
We love helping you find something new to read or watch! You can ask the staff at any location, or email us here for reading recommendations or research help: Ask a Librarian
