Corner Brook Public Library

Thanks to local Mi'kmaw artists, and to staff member Annette Hynes' connection and dedication to the Mi'kmaq community, the Corner Brook Library is honoured to add works of Indigenous art to the library's public space since 2021. Mi'kmaq artists Marcus Gosse, Jenny Brake, and Jordan Bennett, all hailing from the west coast of Newfoundland, have generously loaned their works of art to the library to display. As the public enters the library's space they are greeted by three large canvas paintings by Marcus Gosse. Each painting incorporates ancient Mi'kmaq star, Mi'kmaq petroglyphs, hieroglyphs, and various double curve designs into the landscapes and each one reflects on the culture and history of the Mi'kmaq people. Alongside Gosse's art, are prints by Jenny Brake and Jordan Bennett. Each print provides an opportunity for reflection and thought to the histories of the Mi'kmaq Nation and other Indigenous communities.

Arnold's Cove Public Library

RayGuy"In a Village you are thoroughly known" - Ray Guy

In collaboration with the Arnold's Cove Heritage Foundation, the Ray Guy Exhibit has been part of the Arnold's Cove Public Library since 2021. A dedicated space in the library, near the main entrance, honors the memory of local author and humorist Ray Guy (1939–2013), with a bench outside as well.

Placentia Public Library

The exhibit features memorabilia from past local Girl Guides groups such as song books, planners, badges, uniforms, pictures, clothing, etc. Pictures of Lord and Lady Baden Powell, standing flags, and other pictures of Girl guide Leaders including Gertie Sullivan who worked at the Placentia Public Library and Lizze Ryan.

Lewisporte Public Library

Supporting Local Artists

Back in 2017, in collaboration with the local board members, a sub-committee was formed to promote local artists in the area. Roughly every four months, the Lewisporte Public Library showcases local talent selected by the sub-committee. Currently, it is the Kingway Senior's Home whose art pieces are highlighted at the library.

Kindale Public Library

Since 2012, Kindale Public Library has been a place where local artists can display their art. Some groups that have displayed their art over the years include local high school students, BSG Artists Association, and the League of Artists of Western Newfoundland (LAWN). Currently, the BSG Artists Association and LAWN have their art pieces displayed at the library with information on purchasing.

Since 2007, this permanent display at Norris Point Public Library recognizes the life and contribution of Dr. Noel Murphy (1915-2005), whose career included directing the Bonne Bay Cottage Hospital (now known as the Julia Ann Walsh Centre) from 1945 to 1954. The items can be found year-round displayed in the library's cabinet. Part of his book collection that he donated to NLPL is housed in the local library due to his history with the building.
