Love Our Local Authors (LOLA)

Love Our Local Authors (LOLA) is a celebration of Newfoundland and Labrador books, authors and readers!  February is LOLA Month, when we especially recognize the many talented storytellers of Newfoundland and Labrador. All month long we will be celebrating LOLA at NLPL branches throughout the province, culminating with announcement of our 2024 NLPL Must-Read Book of the Year.

NL Public Libraries is taking a fresh approach to celebrating local books and authors this year!  LOLA 2024 programming includes: 

29 Days; 29 Authors = We will be celebrating 29 different authors from Newfoundland & Labrador during February with daily social media posts.

LOLA Trivia Night (Hybrid Event) = Join us on Tuesday, February 6th at 6:30 pm NT in the A.C. Hunter Community Room or online and test your knowledge of Newfoundland and Labrador books and authors!  Win a gift basket of NL-related items! Register as a team or individual by calling 709-737-3950 or contacting your local NLPL branch.

NL Book-a-Palooza = This NL-only Book Sale is happening on Saturday, February 17th on the 3rd floor of the A.C. Hunter Public Library in St. John's.  Drop by between 9:30 am and 4:00 pm to choose from a wide selection of surplus donations and weeded library materials, including some some hard to find items.  All proceeds to support NL Collection programs and services. Cash only please!

LOLA Showcase = Join us at the A.C. Hunter Public Library on Saturday, February 24th between 9:30 am and 4:00 pm for a celebration of NL books, authors, and indie publishing!  Visit the Community Room to meet with local publishers and find out more about the publishing process. Chat with WritersNL to learn about supports available to local creatives. The Children's Library will present a LOLA family story time at 10 am and the 3rd floor will host a series of author appearances and readings featuring new and established NL voices. 

2024 Must-Read Book of the Year = LOLA celebrations will conclude with announcement of this year's "must-read" local book on Friday, March 1st. Stay tuned to find out time and place for this exciting announcement!
